Gardner is on a fast-track to crawling! It slipped up on us! One minute he was just content with scooting on his tummy or his bottom.....the next minute, it seemed as if we blinked our eyes and he was up on all fours! He gets on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth, as if he's "revving up." He sometimes propels himself forward onto his chest in one huge movement. It's quite painful looking sometimes, but he just laughs and laughs. His newest thing is actually a yoga move. He puts his hands out, straightens his elbows, and pushes up onto his tip-toes (kind of like a military push-up position). He then holds it there, not knowing what to do next! In yoga, this pose is called the "downward facing dog." It is so cute....I sat for minutes on end yesterday trying to capture it in a photo, and I finally succeeded. As soon as I upload it, it will be on this blog for your viewing. :) Today, Gardner and I are meeting Ken at a local park for a lunch

We went to Ken's cousin R.T.'s house for a graduation cookout last night. Ken's cousin, Wesley, has a special way with Gardner. He makes Gardner laugh just by doing silly things. Gardner would throw his little head back and chuckle endlessly. It was precious. At dinner later on, Wesley leaned towards me over the table, raising his eyebrows as he spoke. "You know, Meg, I can teach you some stuff about parenting if you want me to. I know a lot about it cause I used to be a kid myself." Kids say the darndest things. :)

Gardner has recently started doing something that usually doesn't hit until 9 months....developing stranger anxiety. As terrible as it appears to those on the outside who aren't parents, it is completely normal. I had to look it up and research it to make myself believe that.....because it automatically made me thing I was doing something totally wrong. Babies are at the age now where they are insecure because of many things. They are finally able to have object conservation....meaning that they know that just because they can't see an object, it still exists. (Thus, when I duck out of the room, I don't automatically vanish from his thoughts anymore. His memory recalls me and he cries for me to return.) Babies at this age are also learning to sit up and pre-crawl. This creates an uneasiness because of instability....when Gardner topples and bangs his head on the floor, he cries mercilessly. He is learning that some movements may cause pain, and that is a difficul

Gardner made his first "church craft" last night in the nursery. I almost cried when I found this in his diaper bag later on! How they got those wiggly babies to put their fingerprints on here, I'll never know. I know how difficult that is. :) (By the way...the "I Love Mom" sticker was on the back of his shirt when we picked him up!)

I cannot believe how time flies. I mean, it was just a year ago tomorrow that we found out that our baby was going to be a boy. Wow. It seems like just a couple of months ago. Now our baby is born and already has his first tooth. This was a week of more "firsts," so to speak. Gardner tried chicken for the first time. Initial diagnosis? He hates it. It made him gag! I tried homemade pureed organic chicken first. Then I mixed it with carrots to make it more palatable. Then, thinking it was the consistency and not the actual flavor that turned him off, I tried a jarred variety mixed with wild rice and other yummy things. He still gagged....and it made him sick. I think he's on the track to becoming vegetarian at this point. No, probably not really, but that's what we joke about, anyway! Gardner is now "scooting" backwards. He loves just being put down onto our hardwood floors. He will scoot and turn every which way. He is so amazed that he can a

Gardner's epicurious adventures are in full-swing. I am currently researching more and varied recipes for homemade baby food. I believe I will add meats to Gardner's repertoire this week. I must now decide whether or not to buy the jarred variety first, or go ahead and purchase hormone-free poultry and prepare it myself. Gardner's first tooth has exited the gum's surface. It's little bumpy ridges are visible, and he doesn't seem to be as much in pain as he was last week. It won't be long before the others follow...and our little man will be chomping down on crackers and bagels. But I don't want to think about that yet.... We received last night at church our copies of the snapshots that Lanna took of Gardner two weeks back. They are, in one word which doesn't do them justice, INCREDIBLE. I think that she is the most awesome photographer ever, and our son is the most photogenic baby ever. Just a little bit biased, I am. With Lanna's per
