Gardner and Dad.....Gardner about to take a bath. Never seen a kid who loves baths as much as he does. :)

Gardner's now standing on his own for long periods of time. He is pushing around tables, tv trays, and of course, his little walker/scooter. He has walking down pat when he's holding on....it's just a matter of time when he lets go and strides on his own. All cameras ready! It's amazing to me to see how, very recently, his two syllable words have gone from repetitive vowel sounds ("da-da", "ba-ba") to the actual varying vowel sounds of the real words ("da-dee," "ba-bee"). He is no longer a cooing, babbling infant, but a young child who is starting to talk "for real." Incredible. I have been doing a lot of reading lately, on subjects dealing with all aspects of motherhood. I recently completed "The Stay at Home Mom" by Donna Otto (HIGHLY recommend). I am still in the middle of James Dobson's "Bringing Up Boys." Thinking about the future already, I am also delving into books about educationa...

Gardner's new "tricks:" - He can wave bye-bye (on command some of the time, most of the time when he wants to!) - He can clap his hands (I mentioned it before, I think, but I am just so excited about it!) - He can say "Jesus" (well, it sounds more like, "Zhhheee-shus," but it's cute.) - He now goes down the one stair in our house by turning around first, instead of going head-first (which he always did very well and without injuries, but it did look like it might get old) - He ate falafel last night for dinner and liked it - He has learned how to take the drain plug out of the bathtub, how to open cereal boxes, and how to get out of his still-buckled baby bouncer seat (Houdini, I call him) - He puts phones and remote controls up to his ear and tilts his head, then says, "Waaah-heeey!" (translation: "Well, haaayy!"...just like I do on the phone.....the things kids pick up on!) I am excited but also a little sad....tomorrow we a...

Gardner has a new play corner! Ken and I re-vamped our study/bonus room to make an entire corner just for Gardner's playtime and enjoyment. In that process, we pulled down from the attic a play kitchen that I played with from age three on. It needs a little TLC and a few repairs, but Gardner took to it immediately. He is quite the little chef already. :) Enjoy these photos!

Gardner did two new things today....one hilarious, and one monumental. The first occurred as I sat and watched ETV's "Between the Lions" with him this morning. The puppets were discussing what they do when they're afraid or really, really surprised. "When I am surprised or scared," one said to the other, "I go like this...." The pupped proceeded to let out a shrill girly scream. Gardner looked at the screen, raised his eyebrows, and screamed right back...just as loud, and just as "girly!" I laughed out loud at his sudden burst of energy, and the fact that he thought it'd be fun to mimic the little puppet on television. Second, tonight after dinner, he relaxed before his bedtime bottle by watching a Baby Einstein Beethoven video. After these end, I always clap and say, "Yay!" as if I am at a concert of some kind. Gardner looked back at me, said, "yeeee" and clapped his hands right in front of me! Now, keep i...

I am sitting here at the desk, utterly in shock. Behind me, Ken is designing in Photoshop our son's one-year birthday invitations. I am in shock because.....well, (and I am not being cliche when I say this) I cannot believe a year has almost passed since he entered our lives. The morning of September 21, 2004 was one of the happiest of our lives. Gardner entered the world and stole our hearts. We've seen him grow, change, and turn from a helpless infant into a curious and fun-loving baby....all in the time it takes to blink our eyes. Today I was able to play the sub-role of a mother called "comforter." Gardner had his first real spill today; he fell onto a laundry basket and busted his little lip open. As I rocked him and kissed his tear-streaked face, his little fists grasped my shirt in bunches and he drew quick breaths and whimpered. I let him have his very first popsicle, the cold easing the pain and ceasing the bleeding. As he finished the last of it, he looked u...
