Like Mother, Like Son.... Gardner has somehow taken to what I took to as an infant....giraffes. Not real ones, mind you, but toy giraffes. Any kind. Plastic ones, soft ones, ones that click, ones with long, spindly necks that bend back and forth. Mom said I and giraffes were inseparable, too....I had a giraffe riding toy, and of course, my beloved Wally....a soft, terrycloth giraffe that I loved and loved until his orange faded ever-so-gracefully to a dull peach. I can't figure out what it is about my blood line and giraffes. But I think it's cute, nonetheless, and you can bet that I will buy him a giraffe of some kind when his first birthday rolls around. :0) Meg
Lots to update! First of all, Gardner went to the doctor for his four month check-up on Friday. He now weighs 13.5 lbs. and is 25-1/2 inches long! He is right in line with where he should be at four months. He received a DTP as well as two other shots, the same vaccines he'd been given at 2 months. However, this time, it created quite a harsh reaction. By 4:00 that afternoon he was feverish and screaming. He remained feverish all weekend; the fever finally broke last night. Yet he has been fussier than normal. Poor little guy. It absolutely breaks my heart when he feels badly. Dr. Treash also told us to start him on solid cereal this week, so he ate two servings of rice cereal yesterday and loved it. We have it all documented on video and still film! We are also trying to amend his nap schedule, to cut his short 4-5 naps a day down to two longer naps. Yesterday was the trial run; it was patience-inducing to say the least. He was a little crankier than usua

oh yes, that's a kilt
Gardner rolled over for the very first time on Tuesday.... He was playing on his belly (which he's gotten used to and likes now!), and he suddently thrashed sideways and rolled over onto his back. He gazed up at us, eyes wide, as if he were asking himself, "Now, how'd I do that?" Ken and I were both fortunate enough to actually be sitting beside him and see him accomplish it! We squealed (well, I squealed. Guys don't "squeal.") :0) He did it again last night while we were playing with him....so we really know our eyes weren't playing tricks...he really did it. Now, some would argue that turning from belly to back is not officially "turning over for the first time." I say it is. He turned OVER; no one said it had to be one direction only! I wrote it down in his baby book as so, and when he can later go the other direction, I'll write that down to remember, as well. Way to go, Gardner!! :0) Meg

OK, so he's much, much bigger now, but here's a belated photo of the little G from Julie Wannamaker.
Gardner is now turning towards his name when we call it! He looks so intellectual as he calmly directs his gaze towards Ken or I when we call him. Last night he also almost turned over for the first time, from back to tummy. He was on his side and doing well, but finally got tired and gave up. It won't be long! Maybe I will have my video camera on when it happens. Still having fun with him! What a little pocketful of precious he is. :0)
Last night Gardner laughed more and longer than I have ever heard him laugh before. His little laughs complete with gasps in between melt a mom's heart. He looked as if he was having the time of his life. For the complete story as to what was so funny, please refer to today's post on the Random Muses of Megret blog . He slept a record 9 hours straight last night. I guess we wore him out with all of the excitement and activity going on! Today we are going to go for a walk before a line of showers heads our way, bringing lots of rain and an end to this beautiful spring-like weather we've been having. Gardner loves to walk now that he's facing forward in the "big boy stroller seat," as we call it. He sits there and blows bubbles and coos as we tour the neighborhood. Twice I've come home with a sleeping baby that I merely pick up gently and place down in his crib to finish his nap. :0) :0) Meg
Gardner had his first "play date" yesterday....with his 17-month-old cousin, Arianna. They met up at the playground and duck pond near my parents' house. Arianna was running from sandbox to swing to slide, but little Gardner, of course, till relied on his mama to carry him to and fro. :0) They had these huge, strange-shaped red swings in which parents can sit and swing while holding their children. He really seemed to enjoy that. We also went down the slide, while Mimi (my mom) and Arianna cheered us on from the end. Gardner was mainly interested in watching the other children; he took special note of these people who were smaller than adults, but bigger than he. I sat in wonder as I realized that in no time at all I will be running after a toddler who is darting from jungle gym to jungle gym. I squeezed him tighter in my arms, pulling his little hooded jacket closer to his skin, and enjoyed that very moment, the moment where he still fit snugly and compact
Gardner is now 3-1/2 months old, and he is getting to be such a personable little fella. He is getting his first tooth! His bottom right tooth is just starting to peek out of his gums. It isn't making him too fussy, but he is chewing and drooling on EVERYthing. We must go through 4 or 5 bibs a day now. Although I am so glad he's growing and getting big, it's kind of sad to think that this means that he is on his way to eating solid foods. I can't believe it is flying by so quickly. It seems like he was born just yesterday. He is cooing as he has been for a while, but now he has learned a new sound. He purses his lips together and creates a "bbbb" sound. His simple vowel sounds of "ooo" and "aah" are turning into consonant sounds right before my eyes. He grabs his little hands in front of him and lets his "bbbb's" resound, complete with spit bubbles! It is so fun to converse with him while I'm cleaning, cookin
