What a great week this has been! We were able to get some more cute little pictures of our little Oliver! We had an ultrasound done at Greenville Tech on Wednesday....it was for training purposes, so a student performed it while her supervisor/the nurse stood by. It took about 45 minutes, but hey, it was free! :-) And we have six or seven more adorable screenshots of our little man.
When they did the u/s, he was sitting up straight in my belly, and his bottom was at my hip bones. His feet were folded right up in front of his face....boy, he's flexible! :-) I have been feeling lots of kicks on my left side, which is now explained now that I know that's where his toes are pointing. He has the CUTEST little button nose and the cutest shape to his lips and mouth. I can't wait to see him in person. Mom was able to come along to the u/s with Ken and I....she was amazed at seeing it first-hand and live....much different than a video you can watch later. I was glad she was able to share that with us.
Two revelations this week....well, actually, "Go, God!" moments and awe-struck realizations, to be more descriptive. I have now realized two things about why certain symptoms or must-do's exist in pregnancy. One has to do with sleep patterns. I have never, ever had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night until I became pregnant. Now it is not uncommon for me to get up an hour after going to bed, and then again right before dawn. IF I were to have done this before my pre-preg days, I would have taken about 30 minutes to return back to dreamland. Now, however, I am pretty much falling back to sleep on my trek back to my pillow; it is a matter of seconds before I am totally out again. I suddenly realized, "Well, of course! That's God's way of helping light sleepers like me get their rest after those multiple late-night feedings!" As soon as I crawl back into bed after feeding our little one, I now know that even I can slip softly and swiftly back into my deep crevices of REM sleep.
Another revelation involves something I am generally repulsed by and previously tried to avoid at ALL costs: public restrooms. Now that it has become necessary for me to have more searches for the water closet wherever I may find myself (the mall, the bookstore, a dinner party, the gas station, whatever!), I have had to resort to using these often less-than-my-standards-in-clean restrooms. As I strode through the door of yet another this week, taking care to use my pinky finger only to open the handled door, it hit me. "You're gonna be in here a lot more, sister, once this baby's here, so this is a good way for you to get over your fear of it all." Oh, yes. After my jaunts to these less-than-homey rest stops to feed or change my infant son, I will be forever hearing him say as he grows into his toddler years, "Mommy, I gotta GOOOO!" And then I will have no choice but to enter these dreaded places, if I don't want a mess to clean up.
Just a few random thoughts for those of you out there who get just as excited about sudden revelations and such. God sure is great, and wonderfully wise! There truly IS a reason for everything that He created.....
Meg :-)
