35th week doctor's appointment today. Finally was able to see Dr. Herring again. She is expecting her 3rd child, so she is right there in the same boat with many of her patients....it makes it easier to get sympathy about certain things! She said I measured where I should at this point.....and I have gained 2 lbs. since my last appointment 2 weeks ago. From this point on, I will be visiting them more often.....every single week. I can't believe I'm already to this point! It used to seem like eons away.
I told her about some mild contractions I had last weekend, and she was not visibly concerned; she said that sometimes Braxton-Hicks can be mildly painful....it is just my body's way of getting prepared for true labor. She said I will be able to tell true contractions from these in that true labor contractions move from back to front, become more regular in pattern, and are not relieved by measures such as drinking more water or lying down. The best news of the day was that she believes the baby is fully developed and healthy at this point. In other words, if I were to go into labor from today onward, they would take no measures to prevent it. How exciting is that!?
I had the Group B Strep test today, as well, to make sure that I am not a carrier of that germ. If it comes back positive, it's still no big deal; they will just administer an antibiotic when I enter the hospital to prevent it from passing to the baby during the birth process.
She said that my cervix is still closed (awww, not even 1 centimeter yet??), but that it is starting to efface (thin out). So at least my body is somewhat preparing for what the future holds. It's still amazing to me how the body knows exactly when time's almost up, and begins to make those subtle changes to get ready.
She gave me the go-ahead to take some Sudafed for a sinus/ear problem that has slowed me way down this week. Hopefully it won't progress to a full infection....I want these last few weeks to be enjoyable! She also said the baby is still head-down, and so hopefully he'll remain that way from here on out!
We were able to finish installing the beautiful roman shades that Mrs. Wilson made for us....the nursery is 99% complete now! Only little nit-picky details have to be taken care of. I still haven't packed my bags yet, but I plan to do that next week. My New Spring shower is Sunday, and I am in awe of how Kelly, Suzanne, and Judith have taken it on so willingly and cheerfully! It makes my heart so glad to see how many generous and loving people we have surrounding us!
