Today was our first OB appointment! I was very nervous because I knew all of the various tests they might do, but luckily, no blood was involved today. :-) It was a very positive visit, and we are still on cloud nine. :-)
It was cute to see all of the other pregnant ladies in the waiting room. They all gave me a knowing smile and seemed so content and happy, one in particular. She could probably tell it was our first prenatal visit. We had the "tourist" look to us....stacked with books, papers, notebooks, pens, and a bottle of ginger ale. :-)
After receiving the life-saving sheet of medicines that are still safe for me to take while pregnant (you can bet I'm out to buy Tums today!), I answered some questions and then was weighed. Then the nurse led us into the room labeled "Ultrasound." I looked back and Ken and grinned. We were about to see our little baby for the very first time.
Dr. Herring put that cold jelly stuff on me and then placed the ultrasound scope below my belly button. Soon a black orb appeared....and as she moved the scope slightly, a little white mass appeared. It was our baby! She moved it just so until we could detect some movement....near the top of the little "spot" was a flicker of movement, almost like a little flame or strobe light. It was a strong, fast heartbeat. She said everything looked normal, it was developing nicely, and everything was in the right place!
We headed over to her office and she answered my list of about 8 questions.... Then she told me my due date was officially Sept. 24th. She handed us a photo from the ultrasound and it was so amazing!!
Here is a link to it: PICTURE
So we are now looking forward to our 2nd appointment on March 12th when we can hear the heartbeat for the first time instead of just seeing it!! This is getting more amazing by the day....
