Little Mr. Independent.
That's Gardner's new nickname. :)
He has begun to explore his surroundings with such fervor that he doesn't like to be held back from doing so! He is crawling, pulling up, and even walking along when he grabs onto something with wheels (such as his little laundry basket in his room)! He has learned to shut doors, open cabinets, make "music" by scratching on the air conditioner's intake vents, play drums with my pots and pans, and even wash his hands (it's never too early to teach them hygiene).
His determination to make more sense of the awesome world around him has also led to a decrease in desire to take daytime naps (although the little man still happily sleeps 13 hours at night!). He has also now reached the point where he won't sit still for diaper changes unless he has a novel item to hold and investigate in the meantime. I scramble each time to find something new that he can turn over and over in his tiny hands....be it a framed photo, baseball, or block.
He is a big lover of all table foods....we haven't found one thing that he doesn't care for and won't eat. His favorite foods include black beans, cantaloupe, cheddar cheese, Cheerios (of course), and his Sesame Street crackers. He also loves it when I toast him up some of my homemade wheat bread, or even when I share some diced garden tomatoes with him. Such a health nut already!!
Talking is all he does now. He can say "boo" while playing peek-a-boo. "Ma-ma" and "Da-da" are a part of his regular vocabulary now. He can also say "Pooh," as mentioned in an earlier post, and he says "bye-bye" when he feels like it.
So much fun is jam-packed into my days with him now. We read, swing, watch educational television, snack, have bear hunts (on our knees throughout the house), swim, and cook together (well, he helps in his own way....he loves to help unload the dishwasher). When I put him into bed at 7:15 every evening, I collapse, exhausted, totally spent. But oh, how rewarding it is. I have never been so happy being so tired in all my life. I love it.
