A little bit of a scare....
We had a slight scare this morning, but all is fine now.
Gardner woke up coughing pretty violently. He had a cold three weeks ago, and the cough has lingered till now. Dr. Hobbs saw him last week and said he was still in the time zone of a normal cough. A week later, though, and I'm getting concerned. This morning he coughed and coughed. When I went in to get him out of bed, I noticed his top lip was tinged blue. I freaked.
I knew getting into his pediatrician today would be next to impossible. That, plus, there is so much junk going around right now that I didn't want to expose him to ten other things by taking him in there today. So, we called our family practitioner, who also happens to be a good friend and fellow church member. We went right in.
Gardner's lips pinked right up immediately. He attributed it to the coughing spell itself, perhaps paired with the fact that his room might have been too cold for him (it's on the corner of our house, and never stays as warm as the rest of the rooms). I have some cough medicine for him, and I've jacked up the heat in the house.
I have no idea why it's taking so long to get over this cold. I want to make sure it isn't exaggerated even more, so I'm taking every precaution and keeping him inside for the next few days. I don't want him to grow worse and be sick on Christmas. That would absolutely break my heart for sure!
Even though this has been a trying time, I am so thankful for his health otherwise. Literally, Gardner has only had three colds in his 15-month lifetime, and for that, we are blessed. As tough as this is, I must remember that he is really a healthy child overall, and I fully realize how rare that is and how much we need to praise God for that fact.
Looking forward to a spectacular Christmas with this little man. He is already trying to get into the presents. Well, more or less....he's just wanting to take the bows off. He doesn't know what treasures are underneath that printed paper. Oh, I can't wait.
