I just had the most fun day with Gardner.

We didn't do anything too out of the ordinary; in fact, we stayed home all day. It was just a day full of quality time with my little guy.

First of all, we broke the rules and both stayed in our PJs till lunchtime. I cooked a special breakfast, and we found out how very much Gardner loves toast and blackberry jam.

We spent a lot of time reading today, namely the new books we chose at the library yesterday. Gardner was in a "I want to sit in your lap" mood all day, too, which melts my heart and makes me stop in my tracks. He sat in my lap while we watched Maisy, while we read.

Gardner and I went for the first walk of the new year, too. It's been so cold and we've been so sick....this was the first day we've been out in a long time to do that. Though it was nearly 60 degrees today, I still had both of us bundled up in coats and hats. I had fun telling him the names of the things he pointed to and questioned as we walked around our neighborhood. We marveled at all of the boxes by the curb, all of the shells of the Christmas presents opened and being enjoyed within the houses.

After we got home, I let him run around our yard and just....well, be a boy. He picked up sticks and threw them. He found a puddle of water (of course). He played in the mud. He chased the cats. He played in his little jungle gym. He rode in his tree swing. He was out of breath and smelling musty when I finally picked him up, fingers frozen, to take him inside to get warm (of which he didn't like the idea).

For dinner, he out-ate me in pinto beans (his favorite). He actually said "cheese" for the first time (before today "cheese" was the same thing as "juice," just a smattering of syllables that sounded like "SSSHHHTTPPHHHSSSHHH").

More bedtime books, and then bed. Oh, what a fun day. I would have chronicled it all in pictures if it weren't for the ironic fact that we happened to loan our camera out to a friend for the day. Oh, well! I guess we'll just have to repeat this another day, G!!
